Convatec Experts

client : Business Stratégie Communication Category : Development

An ambitious project: Convatec Experts is a PC / Mac / iOs / Android software that allows Convatec salespeople to schedule videoconferences with nurses to discuss and carry out clinical case studies in 3d. These case studies are punctuated by qcm and the answers are given either by an avatar, or by the facilitator himself via the video. The software is controlled at each of the users by the animator. The exchanges take place directly. Scores are counted individually. The animator has the possibility to trigger a case from a list of available cases and to monitor its progress as it goes. Users can vote to select the case they prefer, manipulate the 3d to, of course, respond to the questions asked.

The different versions of the software (Windows, Osx, iOs, Android) are compatible with each other. The software was developed under Unity 2021.1.x, exchanges between users is provided by Photon engine (PUN), and video conferencing by webcam by Agora. Identification is provided by an online web service. This software is an internal software reserved for Convatec professionals.

This project took me a lot of work to put everything in place. The cases are dynamically loaded by Addressables which allows the cases to evolve and to add more later.
The compilation of the different versions is ensured by Unity Cloud Build which saved me some precious time.

Sanofi augmented reality

client : Business Stratégie Communication Category : Development

As part of an event in a show for Sanofi via BSC, I developed an iPad augmented reality application.
The Vuforia-based application detects a series of markers in a tunnel specially created for the occasion at the show. These markers describe the inflammatory processes in the bronchial system. For the occasion, the new URP (Universal Render Pipeline) engine from Unity 3d (C#) was used as well as Shader Graph for the design of specific shaders (notably refraction and Fresnel). Due to the large number of elements to display, the application has been the subject of many optimizations.

VFX Graph / Shader Graph

Category : None

A small test video of the new features offered by Unity 3d: Shader Graph and Visual Graph. Shader Graph makes possible to produce shaders fairly easily and quickly using a nodal system, and Visual Graph makes possible to create complex particle systems via GPU.
The big advantage of these tools is that they allow one to use the power of the graphics card (unlike the classic Unity particle system: Shuriken). Consequently, the available power is increased tenfold. Aesthetically, we can now consider some rather wonderful things.

I will perform a next test in VR, and also on a smartphone with the URP (Universal Render Pipeline) engine to see the result is also convincing.

Rock

Category : None

Rendering test with Arion. This unbiased render engine is incredibly efficent since it uses both cpu and gpu(s). The rock was modeled with Zbrush and rendered with diffuse, displacement map, bump map, specular map. The result is quite interesting, and the render engine is excessively fast and easy to use so far.

Fracture (massFx test)

Category : None

It's been a long time since I wanted to test the famous 3d studio max massFx module. This module dates back a little, but I wanted to compare it with its predecessor, the Havoc physics engine. It is definitely easier to use, and better integrated to the UI of 3ds. For the accuracy and the computation time, it has nothing to envy to the old module.More smoke (fumeFx) and particles would have made it more realistic, but I sorely lacking time.

Unity 3D is a very powerful 3d engine, but what about mobile ? I haven't had a chance to test it on iPhone, but Android is quite impressive. I quickly modeled a simple model, coded a few lines in order to manipulate the object, and I must say that so much fluidity is quite exciting. My previous tests with an 3d flash sotfware engine were rather sluggish. The first tests with Molehill Away3d are very impressive. I look forward to compare both engines ....( Android 2.3.3 (gingerbread) Samsung Galaxy S).
