Unity fallback realtime raytracing

Category : None

Unity recently added real-time raytracing to its latest version (2019.3.x). This is mainly due to the significant advances of Nvidia. Until now, this functionality was only available on the latest RTX graphics processors from Nvidia. However, recently, this functionality has been extended to older GPUs (but with slightly lower performance of course).

The result is still far from perfect, but rather encouraging. If we consider that raytracing under Unity is still in the development phase (beta), we can expect many more developments.

On this demo, the reflections are clearly exaggerated, but it seems that by decreasing them, they disappear. Perhaps it is due to the still groping Unity library, or the limited fallback on my GTX 1080. Anyway, the indirect reflections in real time, the refraction, as well as the reflections are rather impressive.
A few years ago, I had tested a library unfortunately abandoned by its developer (Rove 3d), hoping to be able to render high quality renderings at runtime. Perhaps Unity's real-time raytracing is a first step in this direction ...
More tests will follow on this exciting feature.

Honey pearls

client : Vivapi https://vivapi.com/ Category : Graphics

For a series of honey candies (of excellent quality), Vivapi asked me to produce promotional images for its website mainly. Since it was necessary to produce strictly identical images from one perfume to another, CGI has proved to be the ideal tool for this task. The render has been produced with Maxwell Render. A studio HDR lighting has been recreated in order to emphasis the volumes.

The images were rendered with Maxwell for the most realistic result possible (28 in total). The texture of the candies has been reproduced most faithfully to the originals. The candies shapes were modeled by photogrammetry and retouched under ZBrush. The pot was modeled using CAD tools from plan to obtain the exact virtual replica.

I invite you to taste these sweets, they are all more delicious than others!

Augmented reality RTE app (iPad)

client : Alpha Studio Category : Development

iOs augmented reality application for RTE. The Smart Electric cabinet (that's its name), is an iPad private application that allow to visualize and give technical datas about an electrical system. The app has been made to run on a demonstration site.Technically, the app has been developed with Unity 3d and Vuforia (Qualcomm).Modeling credit : Lighting party

Packaging Apiland

client : Apiland Category : Graphics

Video game techniques applied to the making of an original packaging. The box was made to contain 4 containers (filled with cookies, honey, candies...). The design of the cardboard beehive was developed by Lionel Rolland from Apiland (registered design). I was charged to create the texture. For that, the beehive was modeled in 3d. A render for texture baking was done under a rather diffuse lighting. I've used the different passes (lighting, shadows, ambiant occlusion, global illumination) to complement the base wood texture. The render is realistic and gives a pretty volume to the product.

Color configurator

http://download.graphiste3d.net/Wallcolor.air Category : None

This is a simple AS3/Air test. The purpose was to create a color confgurator with a simple photo. A rough 3d scene was modeled to render the mattes (diffuse, indirect lightings (global illumination), reflections). the mattes are dynamically binded to the selected color. Some blendModes are attached to the mattes to make the trick. The application is just a test. It can be downloaded at : http://download.graphiste3d.net/Wallcolor.air(need Adobe Air)
